SALT and Acting Antics Presents The Lion King KIDS, March 6 – 8, 2020

SALT Performing Arts Presents The Lion King KIDS, as part of the ENCORE weekend of performances from the joint production between Acting Antics and SALT Performing Arts, March 6 – 8, 2020.

Mark your calendars for the weekend of March 6th and get your tickets for ENCORE, a weekend of performances from the Acting Antics Musical Theatre Master Class produced by SALT Performing Arts. In November 2018, Acting Antics and SALT Performing Arts joined forces to produce a show featuring a diverse cast and crew with and without special needs. SALT’s founder, Artistic Director and President, Lauren McComas, had a dream to produce a show made up of cast and crew with all-abilities, and it just so happened that Acting Antics was looking for a physical theatre space.

“We are so excited to announce our second year of partnering with Acting Antics,” comments Lauren. ”Last year’s production of The Granny Awards was truly one of the most rewarding moments of in the life of SALT. I can’t tell you the amount of joy we felt seeing that cast of beautiful people feeling comfortable and confident in who they are on our stage.”  “The merging of our two organizations could not have gone any smoother”, reiterates Cindy Schneider, Acting Antics founder. “Last year, Acting Antics needed a home and the resulting union with SALT provided not only a home, but a warm, caring, and respectful relationship that goes way beyond putting on a show.”

Disney’s The Lion King Kids has captivated the imagination of audiences around the world. See the African savannah come to life with Simba, Rafiki, and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle… and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale.

Acting Antics was founded in January 2007 by Cindy Schneider as a way to provide unique opportunities for children, teens, and adults who have difficulty with social skills or a diagnosis on the autism spectrum. Using the creative arts to encourage social skills and communication growth, their Director, Melissa Ferkler, says, “Antics is a place where everyone can be a star…where we teach social skills through theatre, dance, music, and fun! We are so excited because SALT is such a magical space filled with the kindest people in the theatre world.” Acting Antics capitalizes on the strengths and abilities of their participants to observe and copy gestures, tones of voice, and mannerisms. The built-in structures that theatre and music provide can help the development of social understanding and flexible thinking through the opportunity to act and react in everyday situations.

In 2013, Lauren McComas founded SALT Performing Arts as a theatre company with excellence as the standard and with the emphasis that “community” is paramount in community theatre. SALT strives to foster an all-inclusive atmosphere that promotes a positive, uplifting experience to each individual so that everyone can all work together to bring this excellent art to our community from all walks of life, flexible thinking through the opportunity to act and react in everyday situations.
