A performance of two one-act plays by Philadelphia playwrights, each dealing with the challenges of relationships, and love.
Philly Theatre Week hosts a world premiere of two new works from Philadelphia playwrights. Both are active members of the Philadelphia Dramatist Center, and both plays were workshopped with them. “Lucy Isn’t Real” by Leah Lawler follows the story of Amelia while she suffers a rough breakup. Amelia is burdened by the presence of Lucy, the human manifestation of her insecurities and negative self-projections. “You May Not Know Until You’re Finished With It” by Spencer Ventresca is an evening with three friends. Two of them embark on a psychedelic trip and struggle with the emotional and psychological ramifications of all that is brought to the surface. Director Kelci Schlierf, who most recently directed Period House in the 2019 Philly Fringe Festival, says: “This is a show that everyone can relate to. It really brings to light the darker side of human connection, and it explores the many ways that people handle negative emotions.” Catch Sex, Drugs, and Heartache on Feb. 8, 14, 15, at 6:30 p.m. and Feb. 9, and 16 at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The show has a runtime of 90 minutes, and will be presented at the Inspire Art Space, 1646 Ridge Ave. Philadelphia PA, 19130.
