For the Love of Pig Iron 2020: Stranger Pigs
Pig Iron Theatre Company’s annual smorgasbord of talent – an astounding benefit cabaret and auction with monsters, mystery, and of course Martha – that comes to Union Transfer on January 24th, 2020
Strange things are afoot in Philadelphia–disappearances, unexplained lights in the sky, government cover-ups. Against this eerie backdrop, we seek distraction and merriment at the annual Snow Ball dance.
Join Martha Graham Cracker and her middle school sweetheart, Johnny Showcase, as they awkwardly slow dance. Chase the winter blues away by dancing to the raucous Balkan brass band music of the West Philadelphia Orchestra. Let’s battle the supernatural monsters and get to the bottom of the mysterious events in our hometown, shall we?
Tease out your hair, pop your collar, and join us for an evening of 80’s nostalgia, live music, and fabulous prizes to support Pig Iron; that night we also honor the immeasurable contributions of Pig Iron board member, Terry Guerin, our former board president and key player in the founding of the Pig Iron School.
Stranger Pigs will be held at Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., Philadelphia, on Friday, January 24th, 2020. Doors open at 7:00pm, show starts at 8:00pm. Tickets are $25 for students/under 30, $35 General Admission; $100 reserved seating tickets and $200 for VIP seating. For tickets or additional information, please call 215-425-1100 or visit www.pigiron.org.
The wild and raucous evening will include some of Philadelphia’s most daring performers and special guests from New York City and beyond. Acts will include:
- The joyful, irrepressible sounds of The West Philadelphia Orchestra;
- Sly and soulful Johnny Showcase with his band, the Mystic Ticket;
- Comedian Momoh Pujeh;
- Burlesque Dancer Chief Checkahoe a.k.a Kara Mia;
- Pig Iron M.F.A. grad Jacinta Yelland as Nancy the Crass Cockney Bird
- America’s only full time deaf illusionist Sam Sandler; and more!
Headlining, as usual, will be that 6’4” barker beauty herself, Martha Graham Cracker and her band, as well as our toothsome and titillating host, Chief Hopper (a.k.a. Quinn Bauriedel).
But that’s not all! Live and silent auctions will go all night. Enormous prizes will be live-auctioned during the show, including a private party for thirty at L’Etage serenaded by Martha Graham Cracker, a whirlwind trip to New York City to eat lavish meals and take in Broadway shows, an astronaut training experience at Kennedy Space Station, and a trip to Las Vegas to see Lady Gaga perform.
All proceeds go to the non-profit Pig Iron Theatre Company, Philadelphia’s rascally & world-renowned theatre troupe. Pig Iron combines the experimental, the whimsical, and the thought-provoking to create theatre that pushes your buttons and tickles your fancies.
