Event Review: Evil Genius

Evil Genius’ Tree is Lit (and You Will Be Too)

Since its inception, Evil Genius has prided itself on “very silly names” and “very serious beer.”  Now, one of the brewery’s most popular seasonal offerings is back on tap.  Santa!  I Know Him!  is a festive saison that packs a 7.2% punch.  Brewed with a delicious blend of  rose hips, chamomile, black currants, and dark Belgian candi syrup, it’s the perfect beer to bring with you to your next ugly sweater party.  Even for those who aren’t a fan of the movie that gives the beer its name, there is no denying that Evil Genius knows how to capture the essence of the season in an approachable beverage.

Not only does Evil Genius have all of your beer needs covered, their newly launched hard seltzers are also available for those who aren’t quite ready to let go of their favorite summer vibes.  Additional festive drinks include coquito, a traditional holiday cocktail from Puerto Rico, hot cider, and warm wine.  This means that even non-beer drinkers can fully enjoy a festive winter outing at the Fishtown brewery.

In addition to their serious and silly beers, this year, Evil Genius is going the extra mile to give back during the holiday season.  Their outdoor beer garden is open now through Christmas Eve.  Not only can you enjoy your favorite beverage in this winter wonderland; you can also purchase a handmade wreath or Christmas tree that can have a positive impact on your community.  Neighborhood Tree Co. has partnered with Prevention Point to offer Christmas trees of all sizes for purchase on weekends right at Evil Genius.  Not only does this give you the opportunity to support local tree growers, but help Prevention Point pursue its mission of harm reduction throughout Philadelphia with monthly clean-ups, important health care services, and drug treatment access.

Another way that Evil Genius is giving back is with their .5K run on Sunday, December 8th.  For $30, you can walk, jog, or sprint around the block before enjoying 2 pints, the chance to enter their cookie eating contest, and some festive swag.  All of the proceeds from this event go to North Light Community Center to help them support families in need this holiday season.

When it comes to beer, there are plenty of options in Philadelphia.  But when it comes to finding a beer company so dedicated to giving back to its community, that can be a more difficult task.  Evil Genius has proven this holiday season that they are proud to be part of Fishtown and they are ready to truly embody the spirit of the holidays by not only decking out their space with tons of lights and a giant tree, but by doing their part to support causes dedicated to helping the most vulnerable members of our community.
