Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA continues to offer this civic engagement program as part of its commitment to youth development
The Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA Association is proud to offer various civic engagement programs for area youth, including the YMCA Model United Nations Program (Y-MUN) which helps young people find their voice, develop a global understanding, and build community.
The Y-MUN program culminates in an annual conference in Hershey, PA, providing a unique Model UN experience for more than 2,000 students across the Mid-Atlantic United States, spanning from the New York to Washington, DC metro areas. The conference is youth-driven, planned and executed BY high school students FOR high school students, and provides an unprecedented simulation of United Nations activities, focused on collaboration, cultural understanding, and problem solving which are at the heart of the global organization’s goals.
“The YMCA Model UN program is more important than ever, because it encourages our young people to become civically engaged and find their voice while discussing real issues affecting our communities in today’s world,” said Jen Segelken Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA Association’s Vice President of Community Services. “The program inspires teens to problem solve real life challenges and scenarios, to help develop them into the global leaders of tomorrow.”
The Y-MUN conference will be held on January 4th-6th and 11th-13th 2019. Middle and high school students, grades 6-12, are eligible to register for the conference individually or through their school by December 1st. Students or schools who would like to attend may contact Corrien Elmore-Stratton at the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA at email@example.com
